George Lewis English was born on December 30, 1928 and passed on June 16, 2021 in Cocoa Beach, FL.
Born in McRae, Georgia to George W. and Lucile English, his family moved to Dublin, Georgia for several years, then to Macon where he attended Lanier High School and graduated from Mercer University. He married Eugenia Maddox and moved to West Palm Beach to teach biology at Lake Worth High School. Following three years in Florida, they moved back to Macon where George took a job at Warner Robins Air Force Base.
In 1964, he moved to Cocoa Beach, Florida to work for NASA. He rose through the organization, ultimately becoming the Director of the Executive Management Office at the Kennedy Space Center. He worked directly for five KSC Center Directors. He was instrumental in the founding of the Merritt Island Wildlife Association. He was also proud to be made a member of the Guild of Air Pilots and Air Navigators, a Livery Company of the City of London, later known as The Honourable Company of Air Pilots.
He retired in February of 1994. His wife, Eugenia, passed just over a year later. In retirement, he traveled extensively through the United State, Europe, Australia and New Zealand. In later years, he delighted in taking his grandchildren on trips to England and Alaska.
Survivors include his sons Mike (Kathy) and Rick (Nancy), grandchildren Alex, Jennifer, Colin (Monica) and Matt, sister Mary and nieces and nephews Lisa (Foye), Toni (Mark), Chuck (Betsy) Phil and his special friend Barbara McCoy.
