George Lee Murphy, 84, was born in Clinton, Kentucky, on February 6th, 1937, to Willis and Hettie Murphy.  George passed away surrounded by his family at home on December 15th, 2021. 

George’s family moved to Indianapolis in the early 1950’s.  He worked at colonial Bakery for 25 years and he and his entire family lived in Fountain Square on Park Ave since 1953.  He met the love of his life, Sharon Nichols, in 1958, married in 1959 and they were married for 62 years.  They had two children, Tammy and Sandy Murphy.  He was one of few to establish the Historical Fountain Square Community. 

George was a member of the Antelope Club and served as president for five years.  He made a living as a contractor and owner of L&M Construction.  George poured his blood, sweat and tears into the Fletcher Place neighborhood and owned several properties with his wife Sharon.  If you knew George, YOU KNEW HE WAS ONE OF A KIND AND ONE OF THE GOOD ONES AND A WONDERFUL MAN.  He was strong, brave, kind and loved his family deeply.  Their rock they will forever miss. 

In his childhood he loved to box, workout, boat, fish, bowl and play pool.  Hunting was his favorite.  As time went on George loved to travel and spend his winters in their home in Florida the past 15 years.  George is preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Tammy Murphy-Clark, mother and father, along with his siblings, Martha, Jodie and Bobby.  

He leaves behind his beloved wife, Sharon Murphy, daughter, Sandy Neal and her husband, Scott Neal, son-in-law, James Clark and his sibling, Jewel and wife Wilma Murphy.  George has six grandchildren, Amanda McKinney, Tyler and Cameron Neal, Mindy and Tony Stephens and Dustin Phipps.  George has nine great-grandchildren, Jaydon, Kylan, Aivan, Brylan, Arieanna, Kirsten, Tony, A’Mya and Bryce.  Along with several nieces, nephews, cousins and life-long friends. 

George will always live on in his family’s hearts until they see him again!  We love you Always and Forever.
