George Laird (Larry) Shoup was born November 11, 1930 in Salmon, Idaho, the only child of George Laird (George L.) Shoup and Nellie Lillian Bates Shoup.

He passed away on Saturday, April 10, 2021 at his son’s home in Bellevue.

The family lived on the Shoup ranch south of Salmon at the mouth of Williams Creek until 1935 when he moved with his parents and grandparents to the Katy Ranch near Tendoy, Idaho on the 45th parallel. He attended the one room Tendoy grade school and then Leadore High School.

He married Ramona (Mickey) Lorraine Ziegler of Salmon, Idaho on December 29, 1952 in Missoula, Montana.

Growing up Larry had lots of fun adventures with his grandparents and talked about that a lot. He was interested in all kinds of history and enjoyed reading. He was very capable at almost anything he set out to do. He liked to make little birds and animals out of wood or metal, he could build or refinish furniture, he could build and remodel houses, he could build or repair machinery parts. During his life he raised cattle (beef & dairy), some pigs, and at one point a large number of chickens. He drove a lot of miles hauling hay and feed for the animals and hauling the beef cows to summer pasture. He did a little bit of trucking and also some work with the D4 Cat for some of the neighbors.

He was a member of the National Guard for about 8 years.  In 1979 most of the ranch was sold but Larry & Mickey kept their house and approximately 50 acres. They continued to raise a few cows and he worked part time for QB Corporation and Aggipah River Trips. In 1990 Larry & Mickey started making weekly or sometimes bi-weekly (winter) trips between Tendoy & Bellevue to build Mike’s house and garage and to get the lawn established and it just became a routine that has continued for 30 years.

Larry enjoyed going for a ride anyplace whether a short day out in the mountains or a longer road trip. He was able to see parts of 42 states, 10 Canadian provinces, and parts of 10 European countries all by car. Larry passed away April 10 2021 at age 90 at his son’s home at Bellevue after a year-long battle with cancer.

His immediate family includes: his son – Michael George Shoup of Bellevue Idaho and Tendoy, Idaho; his daughter – Lorri Sue Shoup Denton & her husband Jeff of Kalispell, Montana and Nampa, Idaho; grandson – Chad Justin Denton (Katrina Spatrisano) of Bend, Oregon; grandson – Brett Derek Denton (Sara) of Boise, Idaho; granddaughter – Darcy Kendra Denton Heise (Robert) of Eagle, Idaho; great grandsons – Drake Stout Denton and Lachlan Laird Denton of Boise, Idaho.
