George L. Reiss, 83, of Danbury, husband of Barbara (Guers) Reiss, died surrounded by his loving family at his home on Wednesday, August 3, 2022.

George was born in the Bronx, on May 8, 1939, the first son of the late Barbara (Walther) and George L. Reiss Sr.

He attended New York schools until 1954 when he relocated with his family to Danbury., He attended and graduated from Henry Abbott Technical with the Class of 1957. George was a U.S. Army veteran.

A former auto mechanic, George was employed with the former Van Houten Motors of Danbury and later Brewster and McLaughlin Ford Agencies. In later years, George owned and operated Acorn Lawn Care of Danbury.

An outdoorsman, he enjoyed fishing, clamming, hunting, and camping. A member of the Southern New York Racing Association, George was a co-owner of stock car #61 which was raced at the former Danbury Fair Race Arena.

A Jack of all Trades, George built the two homes the family resided in. He enjoyed following his children’s and grandchildren’s sports activities. He fiercely loved his family and many longtime friends. George would let everyone know “Life is Good”.

In addition to Barbara, the love of his life and wife of sixty years, he is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Tomlin and her husband Richard of Palmetto, FL, and Lynda Miguel and her husband Mark of Danbury, three sons, George Reiss of Broadalbin, NY, William Reiss and his wife Donna and Robert Reiss all of Danbury, nine grandchildren, Ryan (Lindsay), Karyssa (Ryan), Joey, Nicole (David), Jonathan, Morgan, Reiss, Nick, and Michaela, a great-granddaughter Caleigh Rae, a sister, Ellen Blom of Danbury, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, George was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Marilyn Reiss; brother, William Reiss; sister, Barbara Varian, and nephew, Jonathan Blom.
