George L. Lewis, 84, of Whitehall, went to be with the Lord on Friday, September 27, 2013, while in the care of St. Lukes Hospice in his home. He was the husband of the late Laureen (Knauss) Lewis, who passed away in March 2013. They had been married for 56 years. Born in Shenandoah, George was the son of the late Edgar and Charlotte (Dix) Lewis. He served his country in the Army during the Korean War, and worked for Bethlehem Steel as a foreman in the rolling mill until his retirement in 1984. He later was a manager of the Bethlehem Steelworkers Credit Union, and volunteered at the Allentown Food Bank. George was a long-time member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he sang in the choir for many years. He was an avid bowler, mostly at the Union Hall and the Rose Bowl, and was a longtime fan for all the Philadelphia sports teams. He greatly enjoyed his wood shop and his garden, but most of all enjoyed being with his family. Survivors: children Kathy L. Strauss and her husband Joel of Lower Nazareth Township, Ronald G. Lewis and his wife Susan of Clermont, FL, Donald C. Lewis and his wife Elizabeth of Orinda, CA; brothers Robert Lewis and his wife Bunny of DeBary, FL, William Lewis of North Myrtle Beach, SC; sister Jean Pfeiffer and her husband Dan of Bensalem; grandchildren Megan Bodshaugh and her husband Kevin, Troy, Andrew, Haley and Lindsey Lewis, and Zachary and Sean Strauss. A grandson, Lewis Strauss died in 2003.
