George Lee Hurdle, 79, of 64 Benefit Street , widower of Emily (Hurdle) Hurdle, departed this lifeon Monday, June 22, 2015 at Wolcott View Manor surrounded by his loving family. He is the son of the late Jessie and Viola (Roscoe) Hurdle. He was born on October 16, 1935 in Gatesville, North Carolina. He was the youngest child of seven. Mr. Hurdle was educated in North Carolina schools. At an early age coming to Waterbury, Mr. Hurdle worked diligently at several employments. He was the proprietor of Hurdle’s Package Store which served the community for several years. He is survived by three sons, Johnny Hurdle of Washington, DC., Sylvester Hurdle of North Carolina and Ronnie Hurdle of Waterbury, CT. He is also survived by three daughters, Gwendolyn (Richard) Medlock, Jr. and Valerie Sands both of Waterbury and Emily Hurdle of North Carolina. He leaves three sisters, Erma (Lester) Eason and Ruby Felton, both of Waterbury. Hilda Taylor of Altamonte Springs, Florida. He is also survived by three grandchildren, two great grand children and a host of other relatives and friends. He is predeceased by two brothers, Lenward Hurdle and Jessie Leroy Hurdle. And a sister, Rachel Carter.
