George Jimmie Hawkins 87 of 316 E. Johnson Street passed away on Monday, March 30, 2015 at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

George was born on July 3, 1927 in Green Cove Springs, Florida to the late Sydney Wilton and Sarah Ruth Boone Hawkins Haithcox , George served in the United States Navy in 1945 in Washington, D.C. as a Specialist (X) Third Class Projectionist and receiving the Theater Ribbon Award. George volunteered on the Clinton-Sampson Rescue from 1977 – 1986.

He also spent many of his working years with Smith Vending Company at Hamilton Beach Cafeteria before going to work in maintenance at Hamilton Beach for over 25 years. George enjoyed spending his time with his family and fishing.

On July 13, 1983 he married Lois Hunter and spent the past 31 years together. George is preceded in death by a son, George Wilton Hawkins.

George leaves to cherish his memory: Wife: Lois Hunter Hawkins of the home. Sons: Darryl F. Hawkins and wife Lisa of Yadkinville, NC. David A. Hawkins and wife Kim of Mocksville, NC. Paul T. Hawkins and wife Fonda of Clinton, NC. Rodney Hunter and wife Dora Ann of Faison, NC. J.F. Hunter and wife Kim of Faison, NC. Daughters: Maxine Vislar and husband Mike of Hope Mills, NC. Ann Warren and husband J.W. of Clinton, NC. Aunt: Mary Collins of Winston Salem, NC. 27 Grandchildren and 26 Great-Grandchildren.
