George J. Hayden, 89, of LaSalle, died May 29, at St. Margaret Hospital in Spring Valley.
Mr. Hayden was born on April 13, 1921, in LaSalle, to J. Leonard and Mary (George) Hayden. He was a graduate of St. Bede Academy, LPO Junior College and Banking School. He was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII. He retired after 50 years as Vice-president and Head of Loans at LaSalle State Bank. He married Bernadette I. Zandecki on June 8, 1944 at St. Hyacinth Church in LaSalle. Mr. Hayden was a member of St. Patrick Church where he served as a Parish Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, usher, and lector. He was a member of the Holy Name Society, a past financial secretary of the Knights of Columbus, and officer in the St. Patrick School Club. He and his wife were recipients of the Diocesan Pere Marquette Award, and they co-chaired the Diocesan Cana Conferences and the Couple to Couple Marriage Prep Program.
He was a member of Spring Creek Golf Club and was a Red Coat at St. Margaret Hospital for many years. He is survived by two daughters, Beth (Richard) Snyder of LaSalle, and Kathy Hayden of Durham, N.C., 2 grandchildren, Lisa (Jason) Sartin, and Jeffrey (Kary) Snyder, and 5 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife on April 13, 2009, a great-granddaughter, Meganne Mary Snyder and three brothers, John Jack and Donald Hayden, and Joseph Hayden in infancy.
