George Herman Heil, (Dutchy) 95, of Manchester, NJ passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2021 at the home of his daughter.
Beloved husband of Ann (Halasnik) Heil: Loving father of Christine Sullivan and her husband Bill of Pembroke, MA, George Heil Jr and his wife Betsy of Somers Point and Petra LaMonica and her husband Christopher of Toms River. Cherished Grampa of Matthew (Bruna), Elizabeth (Andy), Laura (Kurt), Marc (Rachel), Matthew, Michael, and Julianna. Proud Great Grampa of Michael, Luke, Gabriel, Timothy, Mia, Peyton, Wesley and Quinn.
He was predeceased by his parents Herman and Anna Heil, brother Herb Heil, stepson Lenny Kachur, and his first wife and high school sweetheart Helen (Valko).
He is survived by many loved nieces and nephews.
George was born in Carteret in 1925. He attended Carteret High School and was a 1952 graduate of Temple University earning a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration. While at Temple he had a successful football career playing center for the Temple Owls. His college years were interrupted while he proudly served his country during WWII aboard ship in the United States Navy.
George served as an elected official on Carteret’s Board of Education for several years and worked for Benjamin Moore Paints. His job brought him to New England where he lived in Natick, MA and later Longmeadow. Upon returning to New Jersey, he completed his career in sales for Color Tile.
In retirement, George and Ann loved to travel, taking several cruises and long – distance vacations. His happiest times were spent with his family. George loved people, he loved to entertain, he loved to sing and dance, he enjoyed his nightly cocktail and especially loved being a member of the Footlighters of Leisure Knoll.
George had the capacity to make everyone he met feel important. His smile, humor, and enthusiasm for life were special gifts. His capacity to share emotions and love were the greatest gifts of all. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
