George Edward Carlson, 64, passed away peacefully after a short illness on Thursday, October 21st at the Northampton VA Medical Center in Massachusetts where he was a long time resident. Born in Middletown on May 9, 1946, he was the son of the late John and Anna (Blakely) Carlson of Cromwell. George served in the U. S. Air Force as a Staff Sergeant, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. He is survived by his sister, Barbara C. Bartalotta of Cromwell; his brother, Harold (Richard) Carlson and his wife, Janice of Wallingford and the following niece and nephews, Donna Winter and her husband, George of Middletown, Michael Bartalotta and his wife, Jean of East Hartford, James Carlson and his wife, Patricia of Middletown, and Wayne Carlson and his wife, Stephanie of Middletown. George also had several grandnephews, Gregory and Jeffrey Winter, James Bartalotta, John and Daniel Carlson, and Benjamin, Nicholas, and Jacob Carlson; two grandnieces, Michelle Bartalotta and Melissa Carlson and a great grandniece, Anastacia Bartalotta. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Salvatore Bartalotta. George’s family would like to thank the many caring staff members of the Northampton VAMC, Barton’s Angels and ThayerCare who provided compassionate and loving care for George for many years and would also like to thank his many friends at the VA, especially his roommate, Bob for always being there.
