George E. Ventres of Ridgefield, CT and Holiday Point; Sherman, CT passed away on April 28, 2020, at Laurel Ridge Nursing Home in Ridgefield at the age of 96. He was the loving husband of the late Doris (Hoyt) Ventres, a Ridgefield native.

Mr. Ventres was born on September 22, 1923, in Berlin, CT. He spent most of his early years in New Canaan, CT and graduated from New Canaan High School in 1941.

He joined the US Navy on September 23, 1941, and completed basic training in Newport, RI. He then went on to school for Navy Hospital Corpsmen. He served in Mobile Hospital #6 at Silver Stream, New Zealand; Mobile Hospital #3 at Espiritu Santo in New Hebrides; and then was transferred to the Waller DD466 – a Fletcher Class Destroyer which was part of the US 3rd Fleet under Admiral Halsey. While in the South Pacific, he participated in the following operations: Treasury Island Landings, Bougainville Landing, Defense of Cape Torokina, Green Island Landings, as well as the anti-shipping sweeps and bombardments of Rabaul and the New Irelands. He also served in the Central Pacific during the invasion of Saipan, Guam and Tinian in the Marianas.

On returning home, Mr. Ventres took up carpentry and was a local builder for many years. He enjoyed several nice hunting trips with his two sons, Tad and Dale. Mr.

He is survived by his sons Tad J. Ventres and Dale H. Ventres. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ada Ventres as well as his wife, Doris (Hoyt) Ventres.
