George Edward St. Ores was born on June 18, 1933 to Herbert Sr. and Vada (Brooks) St. Ores, in Thomson, IL. He grew up in difficult yet loving surroundings during the depression, working and living with several rural families. George played both baseball and basketball in high school. Upon graduation he attended Black’s Business College in Rockford. He also worked at the Savanna Army Depot, where he met his forever love Esther Isenhart. They married August 9, 1953, in Savanna, IL.

George enlisted in the U.S. Air Force in February 1953, where he rose to the rank of Airman First Class while serving as a finance officer in Anchorage, AL., and Whiteman Air Force Base, Knob Knoster, MO.

George then attended and graduated 3rd in his class from Central Missouri State University, with a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting. Upon graduation George was first employed in a forensic accounting position by Arthur Anderson, Inc. in Chicago.

Being a country boy at heart, he soon chose to not embrace the city life, changing to a long and successful career at MICRO SWITCH/Honeywell in Freeport, where he was manager of Production And Inventory Control for many different product lines. George worked on and was most proud of the innovations in computer programs and systems to provide on time deliveries to customers, which helped MICRO SWITCH become one of the “crown jewels” of our nationss industries. George was a leading member of the Rockford area, Association of Production and Inventory Control Society.

George and Esther enjoyed camping, traveling, and exploring all 50 United States, as well as multiple foreign countries. He was especially influenced by a very special trip to the Holy Land.

George was an active member of many volunteer organizations including Contact, The Gideons, Stephenson County Jail Ministries, International Fellowship, which through the years he and Esther hosted over 100 foreign guests. For many years George was a member of the Green County Men’s Chorus, which if he knew you, he probably at least once tried to recruit you for membership.

George was a faithful member of Faith United Methodist Church, and faithfully served as a church board member, as a youth group leader, as a Sunday School teacher, as well as serving on many mission trips, Promise Keepers, and the Walk to Emmaus. George also attended Zion Church of Freeport, where he volunteered on the building project, and was a longtime member of the Men’s Bible Study group.

George was skilled at and enjoyed DIY home improvement projects, construction projects, automotive repairs, and woodworking. He also enjoyed sharing those skills by helping and teaching many others.

George was preceded in death by his wife Esther, his parents, his brother Herbert St. Ores Jr., and his sister Janice (Ron) Rogers.

George is survived by his son Michael (Theresa) St. Ores Freeport, IL, his daughter Michele St. Ores La Vergne, TN, Grandsons Jacob and Nicholas St. Ores both of Freeport, sister Arla (Don) Green of Delevan, WI, sister Peggy (Jim) Eissens of Morrison, IL, many nephews and nieces, and very special friend Verlin Yeager of Freeport, IL.
