George E. Mollenhour, 85, of Elkhart, died at 10:05 p.m. Sunday (April 1, 2007) in Beverly Living Center in Elkhart.
He was born May 28, 1921, in Mentone to George E. and Vera (Hardesty) Mollenhour Sr. On Dec. 7, 1963, in Elkhart, he married Nancy J. Storm.
She survives along with one daughter, Susan Berrill of Bedford, England; one son, Dennis (Lisa) Mollenhour of Atlanta; two stepsons, Jack Gall of Hendersonville, N.C., and Andy (Carol) Gall of Faribault, Minn.; one stepdaughter, Lana (James) Feddema of St. Cloud, Minn.; one foster son, Fred (Linda) Bowlin of Goshen; one foster daughter, Denise (Jon) Hagestuen of Hendersonville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Steven Mollenhour; one brother, Lyman Mollenhour; three sisters, Flo Plottner, Helen Ellis and Marjorie Rooy; and his stepmother, Helen Mollenhour..
Mr. Mollenhour retired in 1984 from Bock Industries after 19 years of service as a machine operator. He was a member of New Song Community Church, Union, Mich., and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving with the 82nd Airborne Division in Sicily, Naples-Foggia, Rome-Arno, Rhineland, Central Europe and the Ardennes. He earned the EAME Theater Ribbon with six Bronze Stars, with a Bronze Arrowhead.
Mr. Mollenhour was a member of VFW Post 88 in Elkhart, Bristol American Legion 143 and the 376th Field Artillery Association. He enjoyed playing bingo, attending area air shows and watching the Heartland Country Cloggers.
