Dr. George E. Estill, 88, beloved husband, father and local physician, died on May 12, 2012, at Maysville Nursing and Rehabilitation Facility, where he had been a patient.  Dr. Estill married Bonnie Gormley Estill on August 27, 1949, and resided at the family home at 502 West Second Street  in Maysville.  Dr. Estill was born in May’s Lick on August 26, 1923, the son of the late William Elbert and Margaret Flanagan Estill.

George Estill served in the United States Navy during World War II, but was stationed stateside as a medical technician at the Great Lakes Training Center due to the death of his brother William E. Estill, Jr., in combat in France.  Dr. Estill was a graduate of May’s Lick High School, the University of Kentucky and Georgetown University Medical School.  He and his wife met while both working at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Lexington, and then resided in Washington, D.C. during medical school and his residencies at Mount Alto Veteran’s Hospital and Emergency Hospital.  In 1954, the Estills planned a temporary return to Maysville during the illness of his mother, which resulted in a partnership with Drs. Mitchel and Harry Denham, and a forty five year practice in this community.  Dr. Estill retired from practice with the Maysville Family Medical Clinic on March 31, 1999, and thereafter enjoyed several years of travelling and farming with his family.

Besides his wife Bonnie, George Estill is survived by six children: Anne Hoskins (Bill) of Versailles, George Flanagan Estill, M.D. (Candy) of Corydon, Indiana, William Estill, of Northfield, Vermont, Susan Plucinsky (Jim), of Denver, Colorado, Mary Margaret Harrison (Alan), of Lexington, Kentucky, and John Estill (Sandi), of May’s Lick.  Dr. Estill is also survived by 15 grandchildren: Billy, Kevin and Chris Hoskins; Maggie, Leslie and Andrew Estill; Tim, Michael and Katherine Plucinsky; Elizabeth, Emily and John Harrison; and Patrick, Claire and Kathleen Estill; great grandchildren, Will and Lilah Hoskins; a friend and caregiver, Steve Muse; and many loved nieces and nephews.  Dr. Estill is survived by his sister Mary Cropper and brother Andrew Estill, and was predeceased by his parents, brothers Willie and Jack, and a sister Kathleen Hilterbrand.
