George Durant, 92, of the Holiday Heights section of Berkeley Twp., NJ passed away Friday, May 8, 2015. George was born on February 13, 1923, in Lakewood, NJ, one of five children of the late George and Jenny Durant.
He graduated from Lakewood High School. Following graduation, George enlisted in the US Army, where he served as a Sergeant during WWII. After being honorably discharged from the US Army, George worked at Picatinny Arsenal as a Program Analyst for 32 years. George loved fishing, and music and was an avid fan of baseball and football. On July 17, 1965, George and Shirley were married. They were devoted to each other and would be celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary this July.
Together, they raised their four children, Susan Durant, Rodney Groves, Thurston Groves, and Shirley Groves. He also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren, a great-great-grandchild, and a host of family and friends.
