George C. Cress, Sr., 70, of Independence, WV, died Friday, February 10, 2017, at his home.
He was born June 30, 1946, in Osage and was a son of the late Harold and Eunice (Pyles) Cress.
George retired from Blacksville #2 as a coal miner. He was a graduate of University High School. He had served in the National Guard and was a member of UMWA District 31. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and golfing. His interest also included watching many television programs as well as being a Mountaineer Fan.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra S. (Trickett) Cress; his children, George and Robin, Larry and Cheryl, Brian and Heather, Angela and Bryan Denis, Mariea Hamm, Tonja Balasko, Teekonia Vincent; twelve grandchildren, Ariel, Morgan, Sierra, Tara, Aiden, Kelsey, Bryan, Brieanne, Whitley, Brandi, Shane and Faith; four great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Wanda Land, Harold and Charles Cress and two grandchildren.
