George Black Soden, 90, of Storrs, passed away Sunday May 1, 2011. He was the husband of the late Rolande L. (Grenier) Soden and was predeceased by a son, William Soden.
George was born June 3, 1920 in Kilmarnock, Scotland. He immigrated to Connecticut with his parents, Alexander and Anne (Black) Soden in the fall of 1923. George graduated from Tech Liber Leavenworth High School in Waterbury, class of 1938 and went on to serve in the 275th Infantry Regiment of the US Army during WW II. Following his discharge, he worked as a mechanical designer at the former A.W. Hayden Co. now known as Philips Electronics, where he was named as “inventor” for multiple patents. George and Rolande spent most of their years in Wolcott raising their family.
George is survived by two daughters, Judith Zvonkovic and her husband William of Madison and Sharon Mango and her husband Robert of Storrs, five grandchildren, Kim Chorney and her husband Peter, Amy Galli and her husband Logan, Scott Zvonkovic, Jennifer Mango and her fiancé© Lee Severi, and Christopher Mango, three great grandchildren, Noah and Aden Chorney and Dylan Galli.
