Mrs. Genet Heery Barron, 86, of Newnan died Friday, February 8, 2013 at Atlanta Medical Center. She was born April 3, 1926 in Hapeville, GA to the late James Thomas Heery & Louise Estes Heery. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother James Thomas Heery, Jr. and her husband Lindsey Hand Barron.

Mrs. Barron grew up in Decatur and was a graduate of Decatur Girls High School. She obtained her B.S. Degree in Biology from Agnes Scott College where she was a member of Mortar Board and President of the Athletic Association.

After marrying Lindsey Hand Barron, they moved to his hometown of Newnan where she became an integral member of the community. Mrs. Barron was an active member of the First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for over 50 years and led the G.A.s. She served as a board member of the Southern Baptist Foreign Mission Board, the Georgia Baptist Children’s Home, Shorter College, and The Heritage School. Mrs. Barron served as the President of numerous organizations including, the Residents Association at Wesley Woods of Newnan-Peachtree City, Kiwanis Club of Coweta County, Reading Circle of Newnan, the Newnan Junior Service League, and the Georgia Women’s Missionary Union.

Survivors include sons, Thomas Willis “Chip” (Margaret) Barron of Newnan, Frank Heery (Vicki) Barron of Newnan; grandchildren, Catharine (Cooper) Lindsey Barron Pope of Atlanta, Thomas Willis (Kristin) Barron, Jr. of Newnan, John Taliaferro Gaines Barron of Houston, TX, Frank Heery “Jess” Barron, Jr. of Newnan; great-grandchildren, Mark Cooper Lindsey Pope, Charles MacKenzie Pope, Margaret Gail Barron, Thomas Willis Barron, III, MacKenzie Louise Barron; sister-in-law, Marguerite Moss Heery of Athens, GA; step-grandchildren, Jenni (Robert Matthew) Blackburn of Newnan, James Victor (Kimberly) Ivery of Newnan; step great-grandchildren, Robert Matthew Blackburn, Jr. and Julia Victoria Blackburn.
