Gene Cline, age 89, of Salem, died at 5:25 a.m. Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at the Salem Regional Medical Center. He was born February 21, 1925 in Ripley, West Virginia, the son of the late Oak and Clara (Conley) Cline. Gene was a Conneaut Ville High School graduate. He worked for Mullins as an assembler for 29 years and then at Paxson Machine for 12 years. He retired in 1983. He was a member of the Franklin Square Methodist Church, a member and past vice president of Salem Senior Citizen’s, a past president of the Salem Area Retirees Workers, member of the Washingtonville, V.F.W., and also a member of the Salem Amvets. He served in the U.S. Army Air Force in the 713th Signal Air Company as a Radar Crewman in the World War II, from September 1944 through March 1946. He received a Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, and World War II Victory Ribbon. His wife, Betty Jean (Cox) Cline, whom he married October 12, 1948, preceded him in death April 20, 2012, a daughter, Diane Lynn Bradway; an infant son, Peter; brother, Foster Cline; sister, Violet Rader; and a half sister, Ruth Greenawalt preceded him in death. Survivors include three sons, Ronald Cline of Washingtonville, Richard Cline of Salem and Patrick Cline of Middleburg, Florida; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren.
