Genaro Gonzalez, Sr.  passed away on June 9, 2021, in Hobbs, New Mexico at the age of 87, surrounded by the love and support of his family. 

Genaro was born on October 17, 1933, to Roberto and Martina Gonzalez in Bishop, Texas. In his youth, he worked alongside his siblings and father tending to their farms. While working outside of Matamoros, Mexico, he met the love of his life Celia Longoria. On October 1, 1951, the two were married and later went on to have 9 children. In the early years of their marriage, the couple traveled across the US as farm workers before eventually settling in Hobbs, New Mexico in 1958. 

Genaro began his experience in the roofing trade as an employee of Frontier Roofing Company and Helms Roofing where he soon developed the nickname “Flattop” for his experience in flat roofs and his flattop haircut. In July of 1985, Genaro partnered with his sons Genaro Jr. and Mario to establish G & G Roofing. He worked diligently until his retirement in 2000. Over that time period, the business became a leading roofing company in the region and remains in operation today with his sons Genaro Jr. and Mario at the helm. 

He is preceded in death by his parents Roberto and Martina Gonzalez, brothers; Justo Gonzalez, Daniel Gonzalez (Rafaela), Roberto Gonzalez, Angel Gonzalez (Francisca), Pablo Gonzalez. 

Genaro is survived by his wife, Celia Longoria Gonzalez; children, Martina (Leonard) Rodriquez, Margarita (Donnie) Jackson, Alberto Gonzales (Nicole), Genaro (Ruth) Gonzales, Guadalupe (Shelby) Gonzales, Yolanda (Eugene) LaCour, Mario Gonzalez, Oscar Gonzalez, and Juan “Johnny” (Tammy) Gonzales; siblings, Juana Davila (+Antonio), Raul Gonzalez (Consuelo), Ernesto Gonzalez (Patricia), Eligio Gonzalez (Juanita), Casimero Gonzalez (Juana), Federico Gonzalez (Soledad), Rufugia Garcia (+Ramiro), sisters-in-law, Irene Gonzalez, Antonia Gonzalez, Tomesa Gonzalez. 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
