Gearline McCool Graves
April 20, 1921 – September 20, 2015
Gearline Agnus Graves of Sheridan, Arkansas passed away peacefully Saturday September 20th, 2015 with her family by her side.
She wanted to go home, and home she went, to her Lord and Savior with the faithful prayers of all that knew her.
Gearline was a native Arkansan, born in Sheridan, Arkansas on April 20th 1921 in the midst of the roaring twentys, she however wasn’t occupied with the decadence of that decade, she was a work horse not a party animal. And work she did until 6 weeks before she passed when she was mowing her 5 acre yard in the 105 degree heat of an Arkansas summer.
Gearline graduated from Sheridan High School where she met the love of her life Roy Graves. Together they built their life with prayers and gumption. They moved to Camp Robinson with their baby Eugene and navigating their way through the Army National Guard for 35 years then moving their family to Levy to raise their boy in North Little Rock. Finally building their lifetime home on an 80 acre plot in the Ico community near Sheridan, where she lived over 50 years.
She was a 2nd generation member of Little Creek Missionary Baptist Church. Gearline was an active member of her community where she could be found well into her 90’s cooking hundreds of meals at Thanksgiving & Christmas and hand delivering them to the elderly and shut ins in the Ico community
Gearline was known as Mom, Nanny & Grandma to all who knew her. She loved her family and friends with a passion rarely seen.
She doted on her grandchildren, Melissa and Matt Graves. Keeping them fully fed and entertained with cooking, hunting & fishing and teaching them the importance of Christ in their lives. Her step-grandchildren brought to her later in her life, Seth & Katie Willis were so blessed to have a grandmother who embraced them fully and loved them like her own.
Her nieces and nephews raised with her son Gene, include Conchita Anderton, Harvey Padgett (Vicki), Wayne Padgett (Mary), Philip Padgett (Michelle), Scott Padgett (Pamela), Anna Wright & Nana Lee were a source of constant companionship and love.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents Bessie and Havis McCool and her husband of over 50 years Roy Graves, her bothers Carl McCool, Leon McCool, and sister Dora Anna Padgett. She is survived by her son Gene Graves and wife Kim; grandchildren, Melissa Graves, Matt Graves, Seth Willis & Katie Rhea Willis all of Little Rock and numerous grand nieces and nephews.
