Gaylord Naig, age 85, of Emmetsburg, passed away on September 3, 2021 at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Gaylord Dean Naig, the son of Elmer B. and Vera Marie (Lawrence) Naig, was born on August 14, 1936 in Vernon Township in Palo Alto County. Janice Arlene Clemitson, the daughter of Ervin and Esther (Swanson) Clemitson, was born on January 26, 1938 in Graettinger, Iowa. Janice graduated from Emmetsburg High School in 1956 and then received a secretarial degree from Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg. Gaylord went to Country School until 8th grade. On December 2, 1956, Janice and Gaylord were united in marriage at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Depew. They farmed near Depew and raised 5 children. After farming and moving to Emmetsburg, Gaylord loved to mow and took care of 25 yards in town. Gaylord had also worked at Ringsted Implement and did carpentery with his brothers. Janice was a member of coffee club with ladies from town and had been a member of the Red Hat Ladies Club. Janice enjoyed crocheting blankets for her children and grandchildren and also mittens and hats for day cares and schools in Emmetsburg. Janice also volunteered her time assembling bassinets for church missions. She also enjoyed cooking and serving family and friends. Gaylord enjoyed coffee club at Food Pride, snowmobiling and was a member of the Rough Rider Snowmobile Club. In his younger years he played men’s fast pitch softball, where he was the catcher and his brother pitched. Gaylord and Janice were members of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Emmetsburg and Board Members of the Little E’Hawk Wrestling Club for many years. They both loved going to their grandkids events. Left to cherish Janice and Gaylord’s memory are their children, Dallas (Lois) Naig of Emmetsburg, Lynnea McCarthy of Emmetsburg, Doyle (Jean) Naig of Sibley and DeLon (Shelley) Naig of Council Bluffs; 17 grandchildren, Dr. JD (Jill) Naig, Jacob (Danielle) Naig, Josiah (Jennifer) Naig, Nicole (Jason) Sanders, Brandon (Anne) McCarthy, Chelsi (Darrell) Titus, Jamie Amador, Josh (Sara) Naig, Tasha (Keith) Odom, Becky (Charles) Richer, Sandy VanCleave, Megan Naig, Matthew Naig, Mollie (Blake) Fostvedt Seth (Brittany) Naig, Emily (Mitch) Holeton and Levi (Sierra) Schroder; 47 great grandchildren; brothers, Richard (Rosie) Clemitson of Emmetsburg and Dale (LaVone) Clemitson of Sioux City; sisters, Marcella Smith of Emmetsburg and Grace Fanning of Illinois; sister-in-laws, Marilyn Naig and Alice Naig of Emmetsburg; and many nieces and nephews. They were preceded in death by their son, Dennis; parents; and siblings, Charley Naig, Josephine Juhl, Marie Evanson, LeRoy Naig, Robert Naig and Richard Naig.
