Gayle Arlene (Fisher) Johnson, 77, of West Des Moines, died suddenly in her sleep at home on Sunday, November 7, 2021.
Gayle was born January 7, 1944, the daughter of Doyle and Katherine (Gleason) Fisher, in Edgewood, Iowa. She graduated from Edgewood Consolidated School in 1961, and Wartburg College in 1965. Gayle was married to Lincoln Johnson in 1965, and had two children; Steven and Sandra. They later divorced. She married Bloyce Johnson in 1995 at their home in New Virginia, IA.
Gayle taught Business at various high schools including Mount Vernon High School, then became a stay at home mom. She went back to work as an Underwriter for State Auto Insurance for over twenty years, retiring in 2016.
Gayle had three passions; her faith, her family, and her Schnauzers. Her table, and her arms were always extended to welcome family and friends, even strangers. She loved to entertain, the more the merrier. She was a mom to many, and a friend to all.
Gayle was a devout Christian all her life. She and her husband Bloyce were first members of the West Des Moines Methodist Church, where she sang in the church choir. Later, they found their home at Plymouth United Church of Christ, where they were members since 2011. There, she was involved with the church choir and other church activities.
Gayle’s family grew when she married Bloyce, who was affectionately known as Bloycifer by Sandi and Gayle. They traveled all over to see each of their five kids several times a year. And when more grandkids came, there were few times they could be found at home. They made it a point to go to all the sporting events, recitals, graduations, concerts, and any other special events that they could. She blessed the lives of all her family.
Survivors include her husband, Bloyce Johnson of West Des Moines; son, Steve Johnson (Heather) of Smithfield, UT and their daughter Collette; daughter, Sandra Countryman (Lydia) of Portland, OR; step-son, Troy Johnson (Beth) of Madison, OH and their sons, Nathan Johnson (Amber) and Christopher Johnson (Vicki) and their sons, Josh and Micah Johnson; step-son, Trent Johnson (Jeanne) of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Jacob and Julia Johnson; step-son, Todd Johnson (Marie) of Rockford, IL and their son, Adrian Radabaugh; sister-in-law, Myrna Fisher of Cedar Rapids, IA and her son, David Fisher (Heather) and their children, Elise and Ryker Fisher; as well as Bloyce’s family, other relatives, friends, and her beloved Schnauzers, Diamond and Schatzie.
