Gary Jenkins, died Thursday, Sept 29th at the age of 74. He was born in Rockford Illinois; shortly afterward his parents moved back to Terre Haute where they remained until he was five years old. His life was spent in Chicago until he returned to Terre haute in 2000 to care for his Mother. Gary’s grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Smith who were the Matron and Superintendent of the Glenn Home in Vigo County. His parents, Alice LaVerne and Foster Jenkins preceded him in death. Gary is survived by his step-brother Patrick O’Malley of Terre Haute.

Gary had an extensive background in music, organ, piano, organ building and choral conducting. He studied formally at the Berwyn Conservatory of Music, the American Conservatory in Chicago, the University of Chicago and Concordia University. He was an apprenticed pipe organ builder. Other study was done at St. John the Divine in New York, Oberlin, Northwestern and numerous other schools. He also studied in Belgium and the Netherlands.
