Gary B. “Coach” Letherman, 70, of South Bend, passed away surrounded by his loving family, on Thursday, December 14, 2006, in his home.

Gary was born on July 8, 1936, in Wakarusa, Indiana, to the late Glen and Ethel (Kaufman) Letherman. He was also preceded in death by a step-father, Lincoln Weaver. On January 18, 1957, he married Meriem Wolff, who survives.

Along with his wife of 49 years, he is survived by his daughter, Tami (Chuck) DeLeu of South Bend; his three sons, Joseph (Lou) of Green River, Wyoming, Thomas (Tonya) and Chad, both of South Bend; 11 grandchildren, Jennifer and Angela Letherman, both of Mishawaka, Taylor Letherman of Massachusetts, Nicole DeLeu of Michigan City, Indiana, Tim and Kayla DeLeu of South Bend, Heather (Kevin) Cooper of Elkhart, Indiana, Cody Letherman, Chad, Jr. (Amber) and Brandon Letherman, of South Bend and Tiffany (Justin Rupp) Letherman of Buchanan, Michigan; three step-granchildren, Carissa, Tessa and Cody Squadroni; four great-granddaughters, Riley and Reagon Cooper, Jalyne and Kylie Letherman; one step-great-granddaughter, Bailey Squadroni; two brothers, Brent Weaver of South Bend and Bruce (Barb) Weaver of Warsaw, Indiana; two brothers-in-law, Bud (Pat) Wolff of Winamac, Indiana and John Wolff, Sr. of Kennewick, Washington; and one sister-in-law, Catherine (Ed) Corpe of South Bend.

Mr. Letherman was a graduate of New Carlisle High School. He retired from Sysco Food Service and Perry’s Trophies. Gary was a founding Coach for the Michiana Amateur Baseball League, Wooden Bat League and the Warren Township Little League. He was a founding Coach at LaSalle, Penn and St. Joseph High School Hockey League. Coach was also involved with the Irish Youth Hockey League. He was a fun loving, jolly, joking person who was loved by many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him!
