Gary Allen Collier, 77, of Moberly passed away Monday, June 20, 2016, at Monroe Manor in Paris.

Gary was born September 27, 1938 in Chillicothe, MO, to Ben and Mary (Gumby) Collier.

Gary graduated from Moberly High School in 1956, where he played football and basketball. He graduated from Moberly Junior College in 1958; serving as student manager for the Moberly Greyhounds from 1956-1958 under Coach Maurice John.

He joined his father in Collier Oil Company in 1958, and together they built Collier’s Junction in 1960 at the intersection of Highways 63 and 22.  He retired in 2005. He was a member of the Moberly First Baptist Church; serving on the finance committee for several years, and was an active member of the Moberly Lions Club. For many years he worked as a volunteer for the Moberly High School Spartan football team as a member of the chain gang. He enjoyed playing bridge and golf.

Gary loved his family and friends, and saw something good in each person he met. On June 14, 1959, he married Kay Smith in Moberly, and she survives. Also surviving are a son Jeff Collier and wife Manda of Moberly; daughter-in-law Karen Collier of Kirksville; four grandchildren, Daniel Collier, Kathryn Collier, Jennifer Collier all of Moberly, Ben Collier of Kirksville; other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a son Curt.
