Garry Sanders, M.D., 73, Resident of Stapleton Acres in the Fernleaf Community passed away Monday, June 15, 2015. He was born on July 14, 1941 in Waynesburg, Kentucky son of the late Jacob Vernon & Dessie Todd Sanders.  Dr.

After serving his country in the United States Army Dr. Sanders attended Morehead State and Eastern Kentucky University, from where he graduated. He then attended the renowned Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia where he completed Pre-Medical requirements before coming back to Kentucky, where he Graduated and completed his residency at the University of Louisville.  

While in Louisville Garry met Shelia Quillen and the two were soon married.  After his residency Dr. Sanders was heavily recruited to the Maysville area.  In 1979 Garry & Shelia accepted the invitation and Dr. Sanders opened his private practice, becoming the first Internist to serve the community full time.  Moving on from the rigors of Private Practice he took a position in Paducah, Kentucky at the Western Baptist Hospital. Two years later he was once again recruited back to Maysville to fill the position of Director of the Emergency Room at Meadowview Regional Medical Center, a role that he fulfilled until his retirement.  

During his years in practice Dr. Sanders became well respected by both his patients and colleagues for his professional, dignified demeanor and his belief in practicing conservative medicine.

Dr. Sanders was a consummate gentleman and was very humble.

He leaves to mourn his passing his wife Shelia Sanders, Two children; Allyson (Kevin) Rogers of Lexington, and Donovan (Kimberly) Sanders of Firestone, Colorado,  four grandchildren; Chandler Elyce Rogers, Dylan Reese Rogers, Hayden Isabella Sanders, and Finnlay Reid Sanders, Two brothers; William Larry (Holly) Sanders and Eddie Richard (Linda) Sanders, and a host of other relatives and friends.
