Those left to honor Garrit’s memory are his wife, Marge of Newton; 2 sons, Gary (Melinda) Van Veen of Newton and Kevin W. (Suzanne) Van Veen of Des Moines, Iowa; 2 daughters, Gloria Craft of Newton and Linda (Gerry) Trotter of Newton; his 8 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; and his brother, John Van Veen of Monroe, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Jennie Van Veen.
Garrit was truck driver for Merchant’s Transfer for over 30 years, retiring in 1980.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and being with his family. He was a member of the American Legion and 40/8.
