Garold LaMonte Hemphill, 63, of Bridgman, Michigan, died Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at the University of Michigan Medical Center, Ann Arbor, after a long and courageous battle with cancer.LaMonte was born January 9, 1946 in Mishawaka, Indiana. He graduated from Galien High School in 1964 and on July 19, 1966 married Patricia Koziel in Buchanan. He was a member of St. Agnes Church in Sawyer. Lamonte loved sports and was an avid U of M fan. He also enjoyed woodworking, fishing, playing horseshoes, hot rods, and spending time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Patty; children, Elizabeth (Brian) Przybylinski of Benton Harbor; Richard (Amy) Hemphill of St. Joseph; James (Amy) Hemphill of Baroda and Teana (Louis) Stocco of Western Springs, Illinois; grandchildren, Breanna, Dylan, Hazel, Colin, Jake, Isabella, Ethan and Lucinda; mother, Darlene Latislaw of Niles; sisters, Pat (Bob) Kanous of Statesville, North Carolina, Jerry (Jim) Kuhl of Christiansburg, Virgina, Nancy (Les) Hampton of Sturgis, Nadine (Howard) Roth of Eau Claire, and Donna (Bill) Smith of Lake Orion, Michigan.
