Galen Clifford Beck, age 78, of Salem, died Sunday, November 23, 2014 in the University Presbyterian Medical Center, Pittsburgh, Pa., of complications following a stroke suffered at his home the previous week. Galen was born October 23, 1936 in Salem, Ohio, the son of the late Clifford A. and Mary Elizabeth “Nellie” (Champion) Beck. He was a 1954 graduate of Goshen Union High School where he was an outstanding basketball player and also graduated 3rd in his high school class. He was awarded a Deming Scholarship to the University of Cincinnati where he studied engineering for 2 years. He was a member of the Alliance Evangelical Friends Church in Alliance, Ohio and was very active in the Friendship Sunday School Class and was treasurer for the church’s 60 “plus” program. He was employed in the Fluid Power Hydraulics Industry, first by the Hunt Valve Co., in Salem, than took a position as sales manager for the Salem Valve Company. Upon the sale of the Salem Valve Company he traveled as a sales representative for 4 Industries out of Chicago. Upon his retirement, he took a position he dearly loved as a custodian at the Alliance Evangelical Friends Church. He married his high school sweetheart, Roxanna G. (Calhoun) Beck on August 12, 1956. She survives along with their 3 sons; Galen “Scott” (Teri Wells) Beck and their 2 daughters, Allison and Amy Beck; Steven C. Beck and his 3 sons, Bradley, Jacob and Dylan Beck; Derek (Angela Denney) Beck and their 3 children, Darius, Roxanna and Trevor Beck; 2 daughters, Gaye Anne Studenic and her 3 children, Drew, Aaron and Sarah Studenic and Vicki L. Cope and her son Galen “Thomas” Cope. A great granddaughter, Jette Beck; and several nieces and nephews also survive. Other survivors include 5 sisters, Patricia Beck, Marilyn (Walter) Good, Lori (Mike) Voytek all of Salem, Carol (Jack) Pierce of Sandusky, Ohio, and Teri Lasky of Great Falls, Montana.
