Gail Juanita Mindham, the daughter of Lewis E. and Neva V. (Gibson) Anthony, was born July 6, 1925 in Sherman Township of Jasper County, Iowa. She attended Newton Schools.
On November 29, 1941, Gail was united in marriage to Peter Nelson Van Arkel in Unionville, Missouri. They were married 12 1/2 years when Peter died. Then on January 29, 1956, Gail was united in marriage to Charles R. Mindham in Newton, Iowa. She worked for the Bond Clothing Company, Inc. as a sales clerk during the 1950’s. Gail and Charles lived in Newton until 1962, when the moving to Fairfield, Iowa. They moved back to Newton in 1990.
Gail was preceded in derby by her parents; her first husband, Peter in 1954; her second husband, Charles in 1998; her three brothers, Robert, Charles, and Arnold Anthony; and her sister, Marvel Shannon and three sisters in infancy. Those left to honor her memory are her son, Nelson Mindham of Riverside California; stepson, Robert Mindham of Newton; her two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois Jo and Jerry Wilson of Roswell, New Mexico; and Roberta and Clarence Wells of Unionville, Missouri; her 16 grandchildren and 39 great-grandchildren; her three brothers and sisters-in-law, Elmer Anthony of Gardena, California; Clinton and Joan Anthony of Fort Mojave, Arizona; and Ersel and Martha Anthony of Tahlequah, Oklahoma; her aunt, Mattie Anthony Accord and uncle, Francis Anthony, both of Newton; and her many nieces and nephews.
