G. Patricia Stowell

 

Pat Stowell, 71, died peacefully on January 2, 2007 after a courageous battle against cancer.  Pat was born in New Haven, Connecticut to Gertrude and George O’Brien and grew up in Pawcatuck, Connecticut.  She graduated from Stonington High School and New Haven State Teachers College with degrees in Special and Elementary Education. 

 

After graduation, Pat taught the first grade at Broadway Elementary School in Mystic, Connecticut.

 

In 1957, she married her high school sweetheart, Marshall A. Stowell, then an ensign in the U.S. Navy.  For the next thirty years, Pat performed the toughest job in the Navy, being a Navy wife.  Upon retirement in 1987, Pat and Captain Stowell moved to Naples, Florida and enjoyed a wonderful social life with their many friends.  They also enjoyed traveling and took many trips throughout the United States and abroad. 

 

Pat is survived by her loving husband of forty-nine years, Marshall and two wonderful children, Susan Whitley of Stafford, Virginia, and Marshall Stowell of Washington, DC.  She is also survived by her sister Eleanor O’Brien of Coronado, California; brother Michael O’Brien of Joliet, Illinois; mother-in-law, Mary Stowell of Pawcatuck, Connecticut, her sister and brother-in-law, Barbara and Harry Higgins of Pawcatuck, Connecticut: her son-in-law, Jim Whitley and three grandsons Matthew, Adam and John of Stafford, Virginia as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
