Frederick W. Belz, 94, of Peru, passed away March 26, 2015 at the Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle.
Private graveside services will be held at Peru City Cemetery with Rev. Harold Datzman, OSB, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church officiating. Military rites will be conducted by the Peru Veterans Memorial Group. Arrangements have been entrusted to Mueller Funeral Home in Peru.
Mr. Belz was born August 2, 1920 at home in Peru to Otto and Bertha (Grabow) Belz. He was a 1938 graduate of LaSalle-Peru High School. He is a veteran of the U.S. Air Force from 1943-1946. He achieved the rank of sergeant and served as a radar technician during World War II. He married Norine O’Brien on May 24, 1947 in St. Patrick’s Church in LaSalle. Mr. Belz was a 1953 graduate of Westclox Toolmakers’ School. He worked at Westclox for 35 years as a technical designer and toolmaker. He was a member of the Westclox Quarter Century Club and St. Joseph’s Church in Peru. He enjoyed travel, gardening, reading and business.
Survivors include his wife of 67 years, Norine; his daughter, Dr. Julie A. Belz of Indianapolis, IN and three grandchildren, Lyla, Ahmad and Ali. He was preceded in death by his son, Frederick Belz Jr. and his brother, Willard Belz.
