Frederick (Fred) J. Gnott, 93 of South Bend, Indiana passed away Wednesday, February 26, 2014, in his home.

Fred was born November 30, 1920, in South Bend to Edward M. Gnott & Helen Chlebek.
He started working at Empire Box which was bought out by Packaging Corporation, where he was employed for 30 years & 6 months. He then worked for Simon Brothers for 5 years, then Jamil Packaging where he helped start the Company & was the Plant Manager until he retired at the age of 70.

On October 20, 1942, Fred married Tillie Catherine Palkowski who preceded him in death on March 17, 2008. Fred is survived by his daughters, Beverly (George) Smith, Barbara (Kenneth) Magiera, Diane (Cas) Gorski, Debbie (Joe) Zaworski all of South Bend; grandchildren, Terri (John) Baker, Scott (Chris) Mead, Mark Mead, Tammie (Paul Jr.) Hagedorn, Angie (Brian) Fox, Sheila (Dean) Chandler, Shelby (Shane) Carbiener, Shannon Zaworski; great grandchildren, Brandon, Britney, Taylor, Hunter, Aaron, Joseph, Kaylin, Sidney; several step grandchildren & step great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Florence Rafalski; and his beloved dog, Lady. He was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, Heather; and brothers, Frank, Joe, & Edward Gnott.

Fred served as a Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army in the 8th Armored Infantry Battalion. He received a Bronze Star & Combat Infantryman Badge. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, the former Moose Lodge, & American Legion, Post #50.
