Frederick H. Green Jr. 96, of Leominster, died Tuesday, May 6, 2014 in the Highlands in Fitchburg, surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 20, 1917 in Ashburnham, MA, was the son of Frederick H. Green Sr. and Sibyl J. (Bacon) Green. He was a graduate of Cushing Academy Class of 1936 in Ashburnham. Mr. Green was a United States Army Veteran, of WWII, having served with the 10th Mountain Division Infantry. He served in Northern Solomons, Southern Philippines, and Luzon. He earned the American Defense Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, American Theater Campaign Ribbon, Victory Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with one Bronze Star. He worked for Fitchburg Paper Co. at Decotone as a papermaker until 1980, then went on to work for Don-Jo in Sterling retiring in 2004.
He lived in Ashburnham until 1986 when he and his wife Doris moved to Leominster. He was a Life Member of the V.F.W. in Ashburnham. Mr. Green was an avid downhill skier, and was a member of the WOTS Wachusett Old Time Skiers Association. He is survived by his son David Green and his wife Tammy of Somersworth, NH, his daughter Dianne Dion and her husband Robert of Nashua, NH, five grandchildren Stacy Bachelder-Giles and her husband Larry of Merrimack, Shaun Bachelder of OK, Lindsey Maziarz and her husband Scott, Tyler Green and his fiancé Samantha Niziolek , and Cameron Green and three great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his wife Doris (Vachon) Green in 2008.
