Frederick ‘Fred’ Gentner, 88

East Poestenkill Frederick ‘Fred’ Gentner, 88,of Blue Factory Road, died Wednesday, July 13, 2005 at Samaritan Hospital in Troy after a long illness.

Born in Grafton, he was the son of the late Fred Gentner and Ella Mae (Messlinger) Gentner and husband for 57 years of Shirley Lohnes Gentner.

He had resided eight years in Grafton and the remainder in East Poestenkill.

Fred worked in maintenance at the Poestenkill Elementary School for 24 years retiring in 1982. He also worked all his life on the family farm, where he resided for 80 years, and worked at Fitzgerald Brothers 7Up Bottling in Poestenkill, and drove school bus for Troy High School and Averill Park Schools. Fred was the superintendent of Brookside Cemetery in Barberville for 10 years.

He was a member of the Sullivan-Jones VFW Post # 7466 and the Poestenkill Fire Company. He was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries received while in the Army during World War II..

Survivors in addition to his wife include three sons, Ronald F. Gentner (Roberta ‘Bert’) of Poestenkill, Michael Gentner of Georgia and Mark Gentner of Poestenkill; a daughter, June E. Aiken (Bill) of Altoona, PA; 9 grandchildren; 6 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a daughter, Ann Marie Scott; a sister, Pauline Mae Arseneault and a brother, Charles Irving Gentner.
