Freda Ward Neal, 70, died Wednesday Feb. 26, 2014 in Columbus. She was a resident of Columbus.

Freda was born July 15, 1943 in Manchester, Kentucky to Dan and Beulah (Wilson) Ward.

She is survived by her partner of 21 years, Lee Hamlin of Columbus. Freda had two children, Jessica Lacey of Knoxville, TN. and Lisa (Mark) Neal- Davis of Nineveh. She had two grandchildren, Chelsie Lacey of Knoxville, TN. and Joshua (Jill) Garris of Columbus, who gave Freda her only great-grandchild, Landon Garris. Freda had a sister, Patricia (Norbert) Abraham of Colorado.

As a child, Freda’s family moved to Hayden, Indiana and then to Columbus, Indiana. She graduated from Columbus High School and went on to graduate from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology. Throughout  her life she had worked with Association of Humanistic Psychology and traveled extensively helping to coordinate conferences with the Institute of Noetic Sciences. Freda also trained to be a massage therapist in Chicago and Arkansas. She was the founder of Alternatives for Health  in Columbus, which eventually became a full day spa and as well as a massage school.

Freda was a free thinker that helped others see their true potential. She was a teacher and a mentor to many. She traveled often which allowed her to see a lot of interesting places and meet some extraordinary people. She was an inspiration, a champion, and a cheerleader in many of our lives. If you knew Freda, you loved Freda. She had many interest and an adventurous spirit. She played the guitar, the piano, swam with the dolphins and rode a motorcycle. She even went sky diving on her 49th birthday. She loved to fish and spend time in the outdoors.

Summing Freda up in a short summary is almost impossible, because Freda’s life  was large. She lived and loved greatly. She has touched so many lives in so many ways, it is unbelievable. On the morning she passed away we saw a rainbow  shooting straight up into the sky. Oddly enough, there was no rain and the skies were clear and blue.  I’m sure that was a beautiful sign to let us know she had made it home. Thank God for you Freda, you have been the wind beneath our wings. We love you and will miss you.
