Franklin Pierce Smith, age 80, of Stonewood, WV went to his heavenly home from Louis A, Johnson VA Medical Center on July 8, 2017. He was born in Clarksburg on January 14, 1937; a son of the late John V. Smith and Ruth H. (Lee) Smith.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Barbara Sue (Westfall) Smith, whom he married on June 8, 1957; a son, Franklin L. Smith & his wife, Dawn; two grandchildren, Mark Smith and Danielle Smith, both of Fort Wayne, IN; a sister, Dorothy Posey of Clarksburg, WV; two brothers, Virgil Smith & his wife, Joan of Clarksburg, WV and Glenn Smith & his wife, Renee, Cypress, TX; and nephews and nieces.
Mr. Smith graduated in the Class of 1956 from Roosevelt-Wilson High School, Nutter Fort. Was a veteran serving four years in the United States Air Force and 12 years in the US Naval Reserves. Frank received management certificates from the Indian River Community College, FL. He was employed 45 years in the aircraft industry as an experimental Technical Mechanic/Supervisor, and retired from Piper Aircraft and Northrop-Grumman in 2002. He was a Master Mason.
In his spare time, he made items of wood in his workshop, planted a garden for fresh vegetables and for canning, and was an avid hunter and fisherman. He also watched auto racing and the Florida Gators football, and enjoyed reading the history of the Civil War.
Mr. Smith will be sorely missed by his family and friends.
