Franklin L. Tunis, 76, of Lafayette, passed away on Monday, February 7, 2022, at Franciscan Health East.
He was born June 7, 1945, in Kokomo, to the late Frank and Anna (Eskridge) Tunis. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School and a veteran of the United States Army from 1964 – 1968, serving in Vietnam. On January 25, 1968, he married Lillie M. Bowman in Lafayette and she survives.
Frank was a member of the Lafayette Pentecostal Church of God. He worked as a Maintenance Mechanic for Purdue University for many years, retiring in 1991. Frank enjoyed NASCAR and was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan. He also enjoyed collecting American Bald Eagle figurines. His family was very important to him and he cherished the time he spent with all of his grandchildren. Frank will be greatly missed by all who love and knew him.
Along with his wife Lillie, he is survived by his 4 children, Debbie Hicks, Luther (Theresa) Hicks, Frank D. (Michele) Tunis, and Michael L. (Tracie) Tunis; 2 sisters, Judy (Gary) Long and Margaret (Rich) McClory; 12 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a grandson Joshua D. Tunis in 2014.
