Frankie Joseph Scanlon, 74, Bradenton, Florida (formerly of Rome, NY) died Saturday May 4th from a brief battle with cancer.
He was born to the late Frank and Gladys Ann Scanlon, May 15th, 1938 in Herkimer, NY.
Frank, a proud Marine completed his service in the United States Marine Corps. He later married Sandra Resznyak and became employed as a Mental Health Therapy Aide at Marcy and Utica Psychiatric Centers. Frank was a dedicated employee who showed compassion and dignity for the patients he cared for during his 33 years of employment. In 1983, he was honored with the prestigious award of New York State Office of Mental Health Employee of the Year.
Frank was an avid softball player and bowler in the Central New York area. He had a ‘Heart of a Champion’ with a passion to play and pursue his love of sports throughout his life. He was a proud follower of Rome Catholic High School sports when his children attended. During his retirement years, Frank enjoyed traveling to visit children and grandchildren, perfecting his golf game, horse racing, walking the beach, enjoying a good cheeseburger, baseball games and trips to the casino with his loving companion, Irene.
His truest of love and devotion were to his grandchildren, Bryan, Steven, Michael, Andrew, Corey, Michelle, Joseph and Nicholas. He loved them dearly and enjoyed watching them participate in a variety of sporting and school events. Frank was an authentic, genuine man with a strong commitment to his family and love of life. He enjoyed sharing his enthusiasm for fun.
Frank is survived by his children; Shelley (Paul) Falitico, of Batavia, Michael (Mary) Scanlon of Cicero and Aimee (Massimo) Martinucci of Batavia. His brother James (Helen) Scanlon of Ilion, sister Eleanor Ann (Kenneth) Shermanske of Aurora, Colorado and several nieces, nephews and many cousins. He is also survived by his loving companion of many years, Irene Botts of Florida.
