Frankie D. Applin passed from this life to her heavenly home on November 4, 2015 at the age of 94. Named for her father, she was born July 16, 1921 to Frank and Minnie Patterson in Baird, Texas. The middle child of seven children, she grew up in Lamesa, Texas, where her father owned the blacksmith shop during the Great Depression.
Frankie married Melvin Applin, the love of her life, on June 3, 1938, celebrating 65 years of marriage before he passed away in 2003. They lived in central Texas and northern New Mexico, before settling in Hobbs in the late 1940’s.
Always the homemaker, Frankie did whatever was needed, working alongside her husband while caring for her children as well as many family members over the years. Well known as a fabulous cook, there was always something good and ready to eat in her house, but she could also help drive a freightliner, grub mesquite on their farm, teach Sunday School, and corral wayward livestock. She ran their country store and was the bookkeeper for their trucks and feed lot businesses.
