Frank T. Mangieri, 89, 1114 N. Academy St., Galesburg, died at 4:18 p.m. on Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at WoodRidge Living Center, Galesburg.

Frank was born April 18, 1919, in Abingdon, the son of Angelo and Rosa Amabile Mangieri. He married Ellen “Totsy” Carr on January 12, 1948. She died January 29, 1985. He married Charlotte Berry on April 22, 1995.

Surviving Frank are his wife, Charlotte; his children, Greg (Sharon)Mangieri, Becky (Bill) Sheldon, Jeff (Pam) Mangieri, and Lori Mangieri; two sisters, Margaret La Sanke and Rachel Schaad; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Sam, Joe, Nunzio, and Tony; a sister, Rosie O’Brien; and a granddaughter, Angela Sheldon.

He graduated from Abingdon High School and attended Illinois College until the outbreak of World War II, when he served in the U.S. Navy and Army Air Corp. In 1989, he was inducted into the Illinois College Football Hall of Fame.

Frank and his brothers built the Harbor Lights Supper Club which opened in 1946. They later built the Rib Shack which Frank owned until 1984.

He was a devout member of Corpus Christi Catholic Church, Father J. O. Hunt Knights of Columbus, 4th degree, Ralph M. Noble American Legion Post #285, and the VFW Post #2257.

Frank loved his family and his church. His favorite pastimes were playing golf and watching the Chicago Bears and Cubs.
