Francis Mulbrook, 92, of Newton died on Tuesday, July 11, 2017, at his home.

Francis, the son of Frank Parnell and Sarah Cecil (Awtry) Mulbrook, was born on April 19, 1925 in Newton.  He served his country in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1943.  Francis was united in marriage with Ruby Atwood on November 28, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska.  They made their home in Newton. Francis worked at the Parsons Company and later at the Maytag Company where he retired from.  Throughout his life he also worked as a truck driver, driving many years for Bisom Trucking after retiring from Maytag.  He also owned his own welding shop. 

Francis and Ruby enjoyed camping below the Red Rock Dam with their four children through the years starting out camping in a school bus.  Francis also enjoyed farriering horses, flying airplanes, and even began building his own airplane.  He was a member of the 2010 Jasper County Freedom Flight.

Those left to honor Francis’ memory are his children, Alicia (David) Troen, Deb (Randy) Jacobs, and David (Jeannette) Mulbrook, all of Newton; daughter-in-law, Rita Mulbrook of Leawood, Kansas; 8 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; and many nieces and nephews and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ruby in 2011; and a son, Bill Mulbrook in 2016.
