Francis C. “Fran” Hauger, 92, of Greensburg, died Saturday, April 9, 2016 in Hempfield Manor, Greensburg.  He was born in Youngwood on February 10, 1924, a son of the late William I. Hauger, Sr. and Mary E. Rhodes Hauger.  He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Greensburg.  He was a veteran and during WWII, served with the Maritime Service “Merchant Marines” and the Army in the European Theatre with C. Troop 36th Calvary Recognizance Mechanized, attached to the 9th Army.  He was awarded The Purple Heart for wounds he received in combat.  Prior to retirement, he was a guard for the Pennsylvania State Corrections Institution in Greensburg.  Fran was a member of the American Legion, Post 981 of South Greensburg and an honorary member of the Laurel Highlands Model Airplane Club of Mammoth.  Also, he was a lifetime member of the Youngwood Sportsmen’s Association.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Norma Jean Bagley Hauger; brothers, Joseph R. Hauger and William I. Hauger, Jr.; a sister, Idah C. Lytle.  He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.  Fran is survived by his 2 daughters, Donna R. Haines and her husband George and Cheryl J. Smith and her husband Bill, all of Greensburg; 3 grandchildren, Gregory L. Smith, Heather L. and Adam C. Haines; a sister in law, Hilda Hauger;  also, several nieces and nephews.
