Frances Jane Newell (Holt) died November 25, 2019, at the age of 93 years. She was the fifth child of six, born January 2, 1926, to Jessie Nora Rhiddlehoover and Samuel T. Holt, of Carthage, Texas. After graduating from Baylor University School of Nursing in Dallas, Texas, she joined the Navy Nurse Corp and served four years at the Naval Hospital in San Diego during the Korean War. While there, she met and married William H. Newell of Brookline, Massachusetts. After both were honorably discharged from the Navy, they relocated to Marshfield, Mass. Several years later, following the death of her husband, Frances returned to Texas with her two children, where she resided for the next 36 years. During that time, she earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing and worked as an R.N., Head Nurse, and finally Supervisor, at the University of Texas Health Science Center in Tyler, Texas, until her retirement. She was an avid bridge player, but her true love was nursing. Family, friends, and neighborhood children would always come to Nurse Frances with sunburns, sprained ankles, smashed fingers and the like. She loved every minute of it. Frances moved with her son to Denver, CO, to be closer to her daughter in 2003.

Frances is survived by her daughter, Dr. Lisa J. Stimmel of Centennial, Colorado; her son, William H. Newell II of Parker, Colorado; and her niece and namesake, Frances Warner Weaver of Carthage, Texas.
