Frances H. Pittman, age 85, of Salem, Ohio, died at 3:28 p.m. on Friday, September 27, 2013 at the Hospice House in Poland. She was born May 24, 1928 in North Canton, Ohio, daughter of the late Francis and Berdella (Snyder) Maurer. Frances graduated from Central Catholic in Canton and had been employed at Hendrick’s Candy Shop and as head cook at the Dutch House for 20 years before retiring in 2007. She was a member of the St. Paul Catholic Church. Her husband, James C. Pittman, whom she married July 2, 1949, preceded her in death January 27, 1999. A 6-month old infant, Michael Pittman and two brothers, Albert and Robert Maurer also preceded her in death. Survivors include two sons, James (Cheryl) C. Pittman of Leetonia and Eric Pittman of Salem; three daughters, Bernadette (Richard) Coy of Homeworth, Renee (Gary) McDevitt of Winona and Marlona (Allen) Hurst of Alliance; four sisters, Mary Maurer of Florida, Agnes Kennedy of Massillon, Elizabeth (James) Tully of South Carolina, and Patricia (Jerry) Eberhardt of Massillon; brothers, Louis (Betty) Maurer of Salineville, John Maurer of Massillon, Ralph (Lillian) Maurer of Massillon, LeRoy (Elizabeth) Maurer of Massillon, Tony (Veronica) Maurer of Delaware and Patrick (Crystal) Maurer of Mansfield; eight grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
