Frances Brabon, age 99, went to heaven to “be an angel” on Saturday, March 15, 2014. She was born In Kalamazoo, MI on December 12, 1914, a daughter of Richard and Harriet Menninga Brondyke and had been a lifelong area resident. Frances graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School in 1930 and from Parson’s Business School in 1931 and became a bookkeeper for the Kalamazoo Public Schools Buildings and Grounds Department. On December 6, 1941, Frances married Cleland “Pete” Brabon. Frances and Pete enjoyed spending summers at their cottage near Ludington and winters in Brownsville, TX. Together they enjoyed many activities.
She liked to bowl, fish, golf, play Bridge and she loved to make her own jewelry. Frances was a member of Pathfinder Church, D.A.V. Auxiliary #6 and the Michigan Association of Retired School Persons. Frances loved to watch the Detroit Tigers and was a fan of Derek Jeter, whose grandmother was a friend of Frances. Frances was practical and assertive and never missed voting in an election. Her last cause was to secure ice cream on their apple pie for all the residents of Fountain View. Frances was preceded in death by her loving husband Pete on February 15, 1999.
She was also preceded in death by her parents and eight siblings, Ted, Jake, Henry, Mayme, Christine, Betty, Dee and Harriet. Surviving are: a daughter, Carol M. Jon Wozniak of Haslett, MI; a son, Bruce C. Cindy Brabon of Mattawan; five grandchildren, Michael Sarah Grabemeyer of E. Lansing, Andrea Grabemeyer of Chicago, IL, Chad Cris Gentis of Goodyear, AZ, Kristin Rob Bolhuis of Kalamazoo and Kerri Ken Cauley of Dover, NC; five great-grandsons, Brandon Gentis, Nathan Bolhuis, Logen Cauley, Scott Music and Kevin Music; and many nieces and nephews.
