Frances Anna Whitehill, age 94, of Salem, Ohio, died at 3:50 p.m. on Thursday, November 15, 2012 at the Sterling House of Salem. She was born November 3, 1918 in Jamestown, New York, the daughter of the late William and Delia (Winslow) Scofield. Her family moved to Salem in 1935 and she was a member of the Holy Trinity English Lutheran Church. She was very active in the Patience Circle, Social Ministry Committee, and the Benevolent Committee. Frances was a homemaker and enjoyed her card club for over 60 years. She also enjoyed quilting, crocheting and reading. Her husband of 51 years, Glenn E. Whitehill, whom she married December 25, 1935, preceded her in death on March 9, 1987. She was also preceded in death by a sister, Virginia Bonsteel; four half-sisters; and four half-brothers. Survivors include a son, Donald E. (Karen) Whitehill of Salem; a daughter, Mary C. (Neil) Pumphrey of Salem; four grandchildren, Julie Baxley of Columbiana, Susan Dickson of Austintown, Brian Whitehill of Salem and Wendy Temple of Mercer, PA; 5 great-grandchildren, Cheyenne, Jade, Paige, David and Daniel; and a nephew David (Janet) Bonsteel.
