The world lost a consummate storyteller–and one of the best crossword puzzle solvers ever–when Frances Ann McVey (M.A., R.N.) passed away recently at the age of 95.
Born the eighth of nine children in Queens, New York, Frances spent her life caring for other people, whether it was her family members, her patients, or her students. Her intelligence, people skills, and sense of humor were just a few of her remarkable talents and traits.
After living most of her life in New York, she and her sisters Bess and Jane retired to Florida, but decided to relocate to Arizona in the early 1990s. It was in Arizona where her family members really got to know and love her. Her kind and generous nature endeared her to everyone she met, whether it was a young child sitting next to her, a service employee, or a stranger she met at a store.
Frances is survived by her sister, Jane; her nephews Stephen, Michael, and Henry McVey; her nieces Meg (Peter) Cullum and Karen McVey, her sister-in-law, Charlotte McVey; her great-nieces Kelly McVey, Claire McVey, and Alannah Cullum; and last but not least, her favorite canine companion for the last 15 years: Fergus McVey, her beloved Westie who misses her very much.
