Francelia Mires Holmes, 87

West Sand Lake Francelia Mires Holmes, 87, of Brookside Way, died Wednesday at Samaritan Hospital Troy after a brief illness.

Born in Earlville, NY she was daughter of the late Raymond D. and Ina M. Booth Mires and wife of the late Donald Y. Holmes who died in 1976. She was raised in Earlville, during her married life lived in Albany from 1936 until moving to Wynantskill in 1944 and to West Sand Lake 10 years ago and was educated at Albany Business College.

Mrs. Holmes was a homemaker and many years ago was a secretary for the Rensselaer County Health Department and WHAZ radio in Troy.

She was an active member of West Stephentown Baptist Church. She taught Bible class and was an avid artist, also teaching art classes. While working at WHAZ she earned her F.C.C. license, which she kept active for several years.

Survivors include a daughter Donna Sue Smith and husband William of South Portland, ME; a son John D. Holmes and wife Phyllis of Eliot, ME; a daughter-in-law Barbara Holmes of Wynantskill; a brother Raymond D. Mires and wife Margaret of Pembroke Pines, FL; four grandchildren David, William and Richard Smith and John Holmes; 4 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a sister Carol Esau.
